of Etheral Christmas: E.B. is primarily known for its blistering effects to the skin and mucous membranes. E.B. sufferers have defective skin and have no protection against bumps and scrapes. Trauma from everyday activities such as eating or brushing one's teeth causes pain, injury and scarring. Although her hands and feet looked quite normal at birth, Jamie's fingers and toes are now crippled and webbed together, encased in scar tissue which restricts bone growth. Jamie's disorder has also caused deformities and scaring in her mouth and throat. When she was seven her battered esophagus scarred shut and was replaced with a piece of her colon. Her vocal cords are now slowly eroding through years of reflux because she no longer has a stomach valve. Jamie's mouth and throat are always raw with open sores and blisters. Her tongue is so badly scarred that she can neither lift it to touch the roof of her mouth nor thrust it forward to clearly enunciate. Jamie has always loved music. She played percussion in Junior and Senior High school until her crippled hands finally stopped her. By 1995 voice became Jamie's sole means of musical expression. It is a lot of work for Jamie to sing. She must train, warm up and focus to get her body to compensate for what she calls "all her EB. things". Jamie refuses to give in to her disabilities. She sings even though people told her she could not. Through hard work and determination, Jamie is a living example of part of her own mission statement - "We are all here to succeed." A
